Plans are underway to build a 350-foot radio tower in the Hilton area of Patapsco Valley State Park, near the park’s maintenance facility. The tower is intended to improve radio coverage for first responders, as the area’s terrain continues to pose challenges for reliable emergency communication, according to a Communications Specialist.
Some residents have raised concerns about the chosen site near a residential neighborhood and questioned why more remote park locations were not considered.
The Maryland Department of Information Technology will hold a public meeting on July 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Hall, 5700 Rowanberry Dr, Elkridge, MD 21075.
The project team, along with state and local emergency personnel, will be on hand to answer questions.
